We are used to smart switches controlling only lights. The idea behind the Brilliant All-in-One Smart Home Control is to go above and beyond the basics by integrating all your smart devices in one single app.
There's even a built-in Alexa connectivity.
No hub required.
Nor wires or programming.
Controlling your smart devices could not be simpler?
The Brilliant All-in-One Home Smart Control also boasts a large touchscreen and replaces a conventional dimmer switch. It uses a 3-way lighting configuration and works with any other switch - as long it’s not a dimmer.
If you can’t stretch to $299 for the full stack Brilliant All-in-One Smart Home Control, there’s a cheaper version; a Brilliant Smart Dimmer Switch for just $19.99. But that only works with your lights.
The elegant design comes sporting a snazzy 5-inch LCD touchscreen display so you can see who is ringing your doorbell without answering the door. You also get a choice of six plate colours.
Installation requires wiring and some skills but it’s not difficult. A neutral wire is required though. Brilliant created an installation guide but it’s too basic for it to be useful. Check out the video below instead.
The Brilliant controller connects to a whole host of compatible hubs if you already have them. The list includes Philips Hue lighting system, Sonos Play:1, Belkin Wemo Insight Plug, Ring Pro Video Doorbell, and Nest Thermostat.
So you can control the temperature on the thermostat, turn the Wemo switch on and off, play music on Sonos speakers and much more. The Brilliant panel responds sharply to commands but does not change colours and scenes on the Hue lighting system. You will still have to use the Hue app for that.
The Ring Pro doorbell connection streams live video to the Brilliant LCD panel and you can even have a two-way conversation with the person at the door. When paired with a SmartThings Hub, you can unlock the door if you have a smart lock connected to the hub. It works directly with August locks, like the Smart Lock Pro.
If you're looking to ramp up your smart home, the Brilliant All-in-One Smart Home Control is certainly worth a look. Its touch display provides plenty of room for swiping and it works with a glut of smart home devices from companies such as Nest, Philips, Ring, and Sonos.
Adding new devices is relatively easy, but the Brilliant Smart Home Control is unable to access all the features of some devices. You will still need to use the native app occasionally. That said, all your apps are on your phone so it’s not as though missing features poses any inconvenience. All in all, the Brilliant All-in-One Smart Home Control has more pros than cons.
