Lutron Caseta Smart Switches

Caséta is Lutron’s smart lighting control system and provides a great solution for homes of all ages. One of the key selling points for Lutron Caséta smart switches is they function wirelessly from a hub so do not need a neutral wire - so work in vintage properties that only have two wires.

On the downside, if your internet is down or you have a consistently weak connection, the Lutron lighting system will suffer. Keep a traditional lamp in reserve.

There are plenty of plus points though; geofencing turns your lights on and off automatically when you enter or leave the house, or you can schedule your lights to turn on and off at dedicated times of the day. The dimming capability also enables you to program mood lighting which can be activated with a voice command. And for sub £25 on Amazon, you have to say Lutron Caséta smart switches are reasonably priced all told.

  • Apple HomeKit
  • Alexa, Nest
  • Google Assistant

  • SmartThings
  • Xfinity Home
  • Wink
  • Logitech Harmony

Design and Installation

Lutron Caséta smart switches have chosen functionality over fashion, but the design of the switches are not bland. On the contrary, the hi-tech panel is fashioned with sophisticated touch-sensitive controls and comes in a variety of colours and tones so you can select a model that suits your decor.

Installation is plain and simple also. You basically connect the three existing wires to the Lutron Caséta smart switches and fasten it to the wall as you would a traditional light switch. Don’t forget to turn off your electricity at the mains.

The next step is to connect your light switches with your phone and personal assistants. To do that, plug the Lutron Bridge into your router via Ethernet cable, download the Lutron app on to your mobile. You then need to pair the light switches with the Bridge by following the instructions on the app.

The Lutron Smart Bridge measures 2.7 inches across and 1.2 inches deep so storage shouldn’t be a problem.

Lutron Caséta is an exceptionally well connected smart lighting system and works with a plethora of smart home devices. The Lutron Bridge can handle up to fifty devices and integrates seamlessly with personal voice assistants, thermostats, sound systems, shades, ceiling fans and more.

  • Preset lighting scenes
  • Automate schedules
  • Group multiple lights into rooms and zones
  • Responds to voice commands
  • Geofencing
  • Integration with numerous smart devices

Lutron Caséta smart switches have impressive attributes that are hard to ignore considering the relatively low price tag. Setup is straight forward and you can run your entire household with smart devices from the Lutron Bridge.

A feature that we really like is that Lutron switches can be used to help extend the range of your Wi-Fi. So, if you have a spotty connection which doesn’t reach some parts of the house so well, you can strategically install Lutron Caséta smart switches around the home to help the Wi-Fi signal reach unreachable corners.

From our point of view, Lutron Caséta smart switches are among the best on the market, if not the best. It’s a close call between TP-Link Kasa, Sonoff TH16 and Ecobee Switch+.
